Giusti Group needed a more efficient way to manage safety documentation and compliance across its multiple worksites in Western Canada. With the help of the SALUS platform, they transitioned from a paper-based system to a streamlined digital solution. Jamie Fraser, HSE Manager at Giusti Group, shares how this move has improved operational efficiency, safety compliance, and cost savings for the company.
Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, the Giusti Group of Companies operates across Western Canada and is a recognized leader in heavy industrial, commercial, and multifamily residential construction, specializing in concrete forming. With 250 workers and subcontractors using the SALUS platform, Giusti Group has successfully integrated digital safety management into its daily operations.
Giusti Group faced challenges managing safety across their 25 active worksites spread across multiple cities and provinces. Traditionally, safety documentation and processes were paper-based, which proved to be time-consuming and inefficient. With thousands of workers on-site at any given time, keeping track of safety forms and incidents was a headache.
The shift to digital safety management was a significant move for Giusti Group. "It’s shifted from paper-driven to digital, which is a great help at staying organized and reducing costs," says Jamie. With SALUS, all that’s needed is a cell phone — something every worker already has — which facilitates smoother documentation and enhances safety culture.
By adopting the SALUS platform, Giusti Group found it easier to document incidents, track them efficiently, and even prevent recurring issues. "If there’s a major incident, we need to track it with documentation, and Salus makes it easy to do so. We can even do it remotely," Jamie explains.
A key feature during this transition was the Subcontractor Portal, which made it easier to integrate subcontractors who didn’t have their own active safety platforms. "The process was simple, and while there were a few growing pains with subcontractors using multiple platforms, the Customer Success team at Salus helped us overcome adoption hurdles," says Jamie. Additionally, the easy-to-use SALUS platform enabled the company to create and deploy safety forms quickly, ensuring smooth operations without delays.
With SALUS, Giusti Group can now efficiently manage operations across multiple job sites. "The platform allows us to track our crews in real-time across various cities and provinces," says Jamie.
SALUS worked closely with Giusti to develop custom forms and refine the system, ensuring a smooth transition that met their specific needs. "Creating custom forms specific to our company is an amazing feature," Jamie adds.
The Subcontractor Portal also simplified the process of integrating subcontractors, especially those without an active safety platform. "Though there were some growing pains with subcontractors using multiple platforms, the Customer Success team at SALUS helped us overcome those challenges," Jamie notes.
A pre-adoption cost analysis showed significant savings from going digital. "We saved money on paper, storage, employee time, and equipment like printers and ink," Jamie explains. By eliminating paper-based processes, Giusti streamlined operations and reduced overhead.
When Giusti Group underwent its first COR (Certificate of Recognition) audit using SALUS, the process was seamless. "We met our requirements and completed the audit much more quickly and thoroughly than before," Jamie shares. "It saved us time and hassle, and I’m actually looking forward to future audits."
